Sweetwater GearFest 2015 & Mixing Tips
Earlier this summer I was invited to document Sweetwater's GearFest, a two day festival full of all of the biggest name manufacturers, workshops, and generally awesome people.
This year the festival drew in over 10,000 people from across the world. It is located at Sweetwater's headquarters in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
We had a chance to catch up with record producer Fab Dupont, where he shares his top three tips on mixing for mastering.
Tip #1: Don't attempt to master it yourself.
Tip #2: Don't overcompress. Go easy on the master buss compression, the mastering engineer needs ample headroom to do their work effectively. Tip #3: Listen to your mix in many different places. Getting a different perspective on how your mix translates to different systems is crucial to having a well balanced mix. Common earbuds, your car stereo, a home theatre system, secondary monitors, are all great ways to test this out.
